Johann David Heinichen (1683 - July 16, 1729) was a Baroque composer and theoretician active within Dresden at the court of Augustus the Strong.
The pupil of Johann Kuhnau, Heinichen studied law at a University of Leipzig, then went in to Italy. Around 1710, he published the number 1 edition of his major treatise on the thoroughbass. Within 1717, he became a colleague of Johann Sebastian Bach at the court of Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Cöthen, then went in to become Kappellmeister to the Elector of Saxony. His pupils involved Johann Georg Pisendel. His music is enjoying the cold-shoulder revivification of popularity, sustaining the few of his people & his final act, a Magnificat, currently getting a few attention in the recording globe.
